Digital Nudging platform.

Background

A nudge is a friendly push in the right direction using behavioural science and choice architecture. Whether it’s about nudging people to take the bike instead of the car, help tenants to recycle correctly or make children reduce their food waste – we make sustainable choices easy! Using the Nobel prize winning theory in a digital setting has proven to be an effective and scalable method for creating behavioral change when replacing personal car use in favor of public transportation or active mobility. By applying interdisciplinary concepts from psychology and technology, a highly effective mechanism for behavioral change can be achieved, such as highly personalized communication regarding framing, timing, and channel. Nudgd has developed the Smart Nudges platform that uses smart, personalized nudges to encourage new behaviors and habits using behavioral science. The platform creates long-term measurable behavioral change within mobility, but also for recycling, circularity, food, consumption, and energy.

Smart Nudges Mobility

The platform is available to use either as a stand-alone web app designed to work equally well on mobile devices and computer screens or integrated via an API in third-party applications. Some examples of applications include native apps (MaaS, public transport planning, etc.), intranets for employees or tenants, extranets/my pages, etc.

Smart travel habits

In the wake of climate change, many people want to change their travel habits but find it difficult to take the first step. That's why we created the digital platform Smart Travel Habits. Smart Travel Habits is based on insights from behavioral science and uses nudging as a tool. With smart and timely nudges we close the gap between intention and action.

The Nudging Sweden network is Scandinavia's biggest community for anyone who would like to learn more about nudging. We are more than 3 200 professionals working at 40 different organisations and businesses. Members have access to exclusive master classes, networking as well as digital meetups to exchange best practices and discuss collaboration.

Challenge

One of the most challenging parts of working with behavioral change is to reach the right audience. Finding ways to reach people already exhibiting the desired behavior is relatively easy. One example could be a public transport company doing campaigns promoting the benefits of public transport in their app, at bus stops and in the buses. The problem is that the ones that really need to see these campaigns are the car users, who rarely or never use the app, do not see the messages on the bus, and rarely take note of what is displayed at the bus stops. The challenge is to find creative, accessible, and innovative ways to reach car users in a non-intrusive manner that can be reused for multiple stakeholders such as workplaces, municipalities, public transport companies, real estate companies, etc.

The solution should apply to one or several of the following target groups; employees, clients, citizens, visitors, and/or tenants. Also, please consider that it should fit the stakeholders mentioned above. The solution can be conceptual, technical or a combination. We encourage the use of behavioral science as a part of the solution, and the participants will have access to the Nudging repository from the DyMoN project as a tool and source of inspiration. The winning team will be judged on the overall viability of the concept, the alignment with the stakeholders, as well as the creativity and innovation of the solution. Being able to apply the solution with the Smart Nudges platform and having measurability would be advantageous
